There have been a few Android developers asking me to leverage this community to help them decide what kinds of applications to produce for the Android platform. Developers want to know what is it that people actually want from a mobile device.

The devices or cell phones that have the applications that people actually need and will actually use will be the most popular. I can imagine that there are going to be a lot of applications produced that people won’t use. A fancy application that is not really very useful won’t win any awards, it may be impressive in terms of technology etc but the chances are it won’t sell.

So what is it that people actually want? A developer may produce something that he or she may like or want but that might not be popular at all. We need people to come up with what their ideal mobile device would do and then developers may get a clearer picture of what will be popular.

Let us know what you think and want on your phone here and in the forums.

Google has set pulses racing even more by announcing that they are giving away $10 million worth of prizes to Android developers who come up with the best applications for Android.

As if we didn’t need enough of an incentive we have this! The prizes begin with $25,000 for 50 of the best applications and go up to ten prizes of $275,000 and ten awards of $100,000.

Unsurprisingly Google wants developers to come up with applications such as social networking, news, and location based services.
